Man turns down life-saving kidney transplant because he won’t get Covid vaccine

A man has been refused a life-saving kidney transplant because he refused to get the Covid vaccine.

Chad Carswell has been offered the organ by more than 100 people but won't go under the knife because of his refusal to get jabbed.

The 38-year-old has slammed the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA, because he feels getting the Coronavirus vaccine should be “personal choice”.

He told DailyMail.com that he has already had the virus twice and has "developed natural antibodies".

He said: “A lot of scientists say I'm more safe from my natural antibodies.

“It's more to do with the fact that they're trying to force you to do something. A lot of people think I'm anti-vax – I'm not anti-vax, I'm I-don't-care-vax.

“If you choose to get it, by all means, get it – if you choose to not get it, by all means, don't get it.”

The Daily Star has reached out to the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital for a comment, but has not yet received a response.

According to Mr Carswell, who has had six heart attacks and is a double amputee, the decision-maker is Dr Bob Stratta.

Even though he is on dialysis, the man said that he is “still here, so that's really all that matters”.

Upon being told that he would need to have the jab in order to have the transplant, he told Dr Stratta that there's “nothing to talk about”.

Mr Carswell claimed that Dr Stratta, who is in charge of the transplant team at the hospital, agreed with his reasons for not getting jabbed.

The patient said: “It wasn't up for debate, I wasn't getting it. And he told me: 'You know you'll die if you don't get it,' and I told him I'm willing to die.

“I was born free. I will die free. I'm not changing my mind.

“He called me and said that I was a very intelligent man and that the reasoning that I had for not agreeing with everything, he agreed with 100 percent, and that if it were up to him, he would allow me to get it."
