McDonald’s customer horrified as huge rat scuttling across drive-thru

A McDonald's customer captured the moment a massive rat ran through a drive-thru, which has sparked the fast food chain to call in pest control experts.

The man was left horrified after he reportedly noticed two huge rodents scuttling around the area as he waited for his order at a branch in Teesside over the weekend.

The shocked diner said he spotted one of them creeping on the pavement at the drive-thru at Coulby Newham McDonald's on Stainton Way on Saturday, May 28.

He claims he made a desperate U-turn after collecting his order to try and alert staff about the grisly discovery but says the window was shut, reports Teesside Live.

McDonald's has confirmed that pest control experts will visit the Teesside fast-food branch as a "precautionary measure" following the report.

He said: "I went to McDonald's in Coulby Newham at 7.30pm to get some food.

"Whilst waiting in the drive-through, I spotted two rats running around the car park, near the drive-through lane. I managed to get a photo of this one which sat next to my car for a good few minutes while I was waiting for my food.

"I was a bit put off to say the least! I was going to ask for the manager to make him/her aware of the problem but as soon as I got handed my food, I turned around and the member of staff was gone and the window closed."

The man said he contacted McDonald's regarding his finding, with the customer services team apologising and passing on details of the incident to the management team.

A McDonald's spokesperson said: "We take cleanliness and hygiene very seriously, including in the area surrounding the restaurant.

"Pest control experts carry out regular routine checks of the site which is standard practice to ensure we maintain our standards and they will also be attending to carry out a precautionary inspection."
