‘My dog did me a great favour’: Meet the dogs teaching their owners a new trick about turmeric supplements

People who decide to take turmeric supplements for their bone and joint health usually get persuaded by recommendations from friends and family or expert nutritionists and dieticians.

But an increasing number of people are also finding themselves feeling convinced by their dogs.

For Diane Pool from North Yorkshire, it was her elderly golden retriever, Pippa, who finally sold her on the idea.

Since starting on CurcuPet-K9, 15-year-old Dougal’s problems with his back legs have disappeared

After noticing that Pippa had lost all her old enthusiasm for going out for walks, Diane had started to wonder what she could do to help.

‘It saddened me to see Pippa stay in her basket when she saw me getting ready to go out for a walk,’ says Diane. ‘It wasn’t like her at all.’

Then she read about a turmeric supplement specially designed to support dogs’ joint health called CurcuPet-K9.

‘I felt I had nothing to lose, so I decided to give them to Pippa in her food. After just a few weeks, I felt like I had my old dog again. She has a spring back in her step – it’s wonderful.

‘It really made me smile when a young couple asked me how old my puppy was. Not bad for a 14-year-old! I now tell all my dog-walking friends about CurcuPet-K9.’

But for Diane, that wasn’t the end of the story. ‘I was so impressed with the canine turmeric I decided to take the human form, Turmeric+, for myself,’ she says.

‘Pippa did me a great favour. We both now enjoy our walks more than ever. I like to sew and I’m able to get out of my chair more easily when I’ve been sitting for a long time. I’m so happy we’ve both discovered these supplements. I can’t recommend them highly enough.’

CurcuPet-K9 works in a very similar way to a best-selling bones and joints supplement for humans called Turmeric+.

Both supplements were developed by FutureYou Cambridge, a UK company known for making nutritional supplements backed by extensive scientific research.

The key active ingredient in turmeric is curcumin, but it’s very difficult for our bodies – whether they’re human or canine – to absorb.

To overcome that problem, the scientists at FutureYou Cambridge developed their turmeric supplement using a unique and patented Curcuma Phospholipid Complex formulation. It’s the most researched bioavailable curcumin available, with over 45 human studies, and is 30 times more absorbable than standard turmeric powder.

Customers who started using Turmeric+ found it so effective that they started giving it to their elderly pets, too.

‘The feedback was so positive that we created a special formulation first for dogs, and more recently for cats,’ says FutureYou Cambridge CEO Adam Cleevely.

Retired bank manager Jennifer says she looks after 15-year-old West Highland White Terrier, Dougal, better than herself, and put him on CurcuPet-K9 four years ago

Now the story has gone full circle, with dog owners reporting that their dog’s experience of CurcuPet-K9 has given them the confidence to try taking a turmeric supplement for themselves – like 72-year-old retired bank manager Jennifer Brown.

‘I look after him better than I look after myself,’ says Jennifer of her beloved 15-year-old West Highland White Terrier, Dougal.

‘Dougal’s such a character,’ she says. ‘He’s like a little teddy bear, he’s got a gorgeous face. The number of times I get complimented about him.’

She loves giving him regular grooming visits and even decided to commission a portrait of him that ‘cost an arm and a leg’.

When he started to develop a problem with his legs four years ago, Jennifer decided to try him on CurcuPet-K9 after reading about it in a newspaper. ‘He used to limp at the back end,’ she says. ‘Now that’s completely gone.’

She’s since become a passionate advocate for the supplement among many fellow dog walkers in her Harrogate neighbourhood, even as far as sharing it with them. ‘I had an extra packet so I gave it to a couple with a spaniel, and they’ve continued with it, and lots of other people as well.’

Now, Jennifer has decided to take care of herself just as much by signing up for her own regular Turmeric+ supplement.

‘I’m really proud of telling people about it,’ she says. ‘I think it’s amazing and I’m delighted.’

Inspiring their owners to take turmeric supplements is perhaps just one of the latest ways that dogs can help take care of our health and wellbeing – from regular walks to the deep love and affection their companionship brings.

‘According to my doctor, I’m fitter than most folk half my age – and he puts that down to Caley,’ says 76-year-old Ken Calder from Inverness, a veteran designer of leather jackets and the chairman of Aero Leather Clothing Limited. Caley is his 12-year-old Border Collie.

Ken Calder decided to put his 12-year-old Border Collie, Caley, pictured, on CurcuPet-K9 when her legs began getting stiff, and has been amazed by the results

‘She’s my constant companion, one of the family. She’ll be 13 in May, but people still call her ‘the puppy’. And I put a lot of that down to CurcuPet-K9.’

‘Caley’s unbelievable. I’ve never known such an active dog. She just runs and swims all the time, and she’s football-crazy.

‘But by the time she was getting on to be eight or nine, she was having trouble. You could see that her legs were very stiff, but she’d keep running until you made her stop.

‘I just thought I’d give CurcuPet-K9 a try. And by the time we finished the first pack, she seemed two years younger again.

Ken has kept her regularly on the supplement ever since. ‘She’s out twice a day and still goes swimming. She’s totally obsessed with playing football. And she still wants to play at night, so her energy is incredible.’

‘She goes out with lots of other dogs and she always looks the most active of the lot of them.

‘I’m dead chuffed with CurcuPet-K9. I tell people about it all the time.’

The CEO of FutureYou Cambridge Adam Cleevely says: ‘We’re absolutely thrilled that we’re supporting thousands of older dogs and cats to stay happy and active, and that can help their owners stay healthy and happy, too. As a dog owner myself I know how much dogs can help us maintain an active lifestyle, which is why we’re launching our free-to-join Stay One Step Ahead walking campaign.

‘We’d love to support the joint health of more dogs and cats, which is why we’re currently making an introductory offer for new customers across our pet health range so they can see for themselves.’
