Meghan and Harry may ‘change surname in bid to align with Diana’, author claims

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry could be set for a name change as they look to move away from the Windsor name, according to claims by a royal author.

The alternative would see the Duke and Duchess of Sussex adopt the Spencer title, which one expert believes is a "bid to align with Diana" as part of their rebrand.

Claims of an alleged rebrand aired when over discussions of how the Sussex duo found themselves severing ties with their £15million Spotify contract, and expert Tom Bower believes the pair have considered the name change.

It would see both Meghan and Harry take the Prince's mother's maiden name, as they look to "recast" themselves.

Bower, speaking to Dan Woottton on GB News, said: "What’s really interesting in the rebranding of the Sussexes, is that Meghan decided her real object in life was to be Diana.

"That has always been her passion, that has also been Harry’s passion and Meghan went to the extent of suggesting that they should drop the name Windsor and take the surname Spencer.

"So she’d be Meghan Spencer – the new Diana."

When asked for further details, Mr Bower believed the plan was already "discussed" between the duo and appear to have tabled the plan with their team as they have "plucked" it "out of their minds".

He continued: "‘They’ve discussed it not only by themselves but with others too. This isn’t something they’ve plucked out of their minds. They were actively trying to recast themselves as Harry and Meghan Spencer.

"He’d take his mother’s name too. It’s all about the break off. They’d also give up the Sussex title because instead you’ve got the new incarnation of Diana."

Talks of a Sussex rebrand follow on from the Daily Star's reporting of the Spotify deal ending.

It comes as the duo's brand was described as being in "turmoil", with their Netflix deal allegedly also damaged.
