Meghan Markle paid touching nod to Princess Diana with watch for video message

Meghan Markle paid a loving tribute to the late Princess Diana on Mother's Day in the US when she gave a speech at Vax Live broadcast.

The Duchess of Sussex appeared in a video message on Sunday (May 10) and talked about the need to prioritise the health of women in the coronavirus pandemic.

Eagle-eyed fans noticed Meghan was wearing a Cartier watch, a classic timepiece that was given to Diana by her father.

In the clip, the heavily pregnant Duchess is seen sitting on a bench in an outdoor setting while wearing a red poppy-printed loose-fitting shirt dress.

She says: "The past year has been defined by communities coming together tirelessly and heroically to tackle Covid-19.

"And we've gathered tonight because the road ahead is getting brighter, but it's going to take every one of us to find our way forward."

Her subtle hand gestures revealed her jewellery pieces and accessories she wore to match the outfit.

Meghan donned a £17,000 gold watch, a Cartier Tank Française, which the Princess of Wales frequently wore before her death in 1997. It is thought to be a gift from Prince Harry to Meghan.

She topped the look with a £5,650 "Love" bracelet from the same brand, a matching gold accessory with her husband Prince Harry.

During the speech, Meghan mentioned her unborn daughter and the hopes for her future.

"My husband and I are thrilled to soon be welcoming a daughter. It's a feeling of joy we share with millions of other families around the world," she continued cradling her baby bump," she said.

"When we think of her, we think of all the young women and girls around the globe who must be given the ability and support to lead us forward.

"Their future leadership depends on the decisions we make and the actions we take now to set them up, and set all of us up, for a successful, equitable, compassionate tomorrow.

"We want to make sure that as we recover, we recover stronger. That as we rebuild, we rebuild together. Thank you."
