Met sacks two cops who shared sick messages about Katie Price's son

Katie Price is ‘over the moon’ that Met Police officers have been found guilty of gross misconduct for sharing sick WhatsApp messages mocking her disabled son Harvey as two of them are sacked

  • Eight Met officers had been charged with misconduct over discriminatory texts
  • Speaking earlier today, model Katie said she was ‘over the moon’ at the news

Two serving Metropolitan Police officers have been sacked over ‘repulsive’ messages they sent to colleagues in a WhatsApp group, including some about Katie Price’s disabled son.

PC Glynn Rees and PC Dave Selway were fired by the Met following a gross misconduct hearing today.

The pair were part of a group of eight officers – six of whom have already left the scandal-hit police force – who shared discriminatory messages about model Katie’s 20-year-old son, Harvey.

A police commander today said he was ‘repulsed and ashamed’ at the ‘deeply offensive’ messages sent by his officers.

While Katie, 44, said she was ‘over the moon’ at the decision and the officers had been  involved should be ‘ashamed’ and ’embarrassed’ over the disgusting comments.

On the up: Katie Price said she is ‘over the moon’ to learn that eight serving Met Officers have been charged with misconduct over offensive messages about her son Harvey

The officers – seven men and one woman – were found to have sent sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic and ableist comments in a WhatsApp group called ‘Secret Squirrel S***’ between May 17, 2016 and June 26, 2018.

Legal chairman Christopher McKay described gross misconduct as a ‘breach of the standards of professional behaviour that is so serious as to justify dismissal’, during the fifth day of hearings at Palestra House in Southwark, London, on Thursday.

The hearing concerned former sergeants Luke Thomas and Luke Allen, former PCs Kelsey Buchan, Carlo Francisco, Lee South, Darren Jenner, and PC Glynn Rees, and Officer B, who has been granted anonymity.

Katie spoke to 5 News’ Dan Walker in her first TV interview on Thursday, with Harvey by her side, when Dan asked Katie what she had to say to the charged police officers, she said: ‘I hope they feel ashamed. I hope they’re embarrassed…

‘I hope they’re embarrassed to know what their family are going through and I hope… all their names and their mug shots come out because I would like to see their faces and they should be named and shamed…

‘And hopefully they will never serve in the police force again, and if they ever get any other job that it goes on their CV because I’ll tell you what, there won’t be a lot of people who want to employ them after this…

‘Would you want to employ someone when you know they do stuff like this? Because I know I wouldn’t. So it will affect them for the rest of their life. And I hope it does because they deserve that, they’re disgusting.’

When asked about her response to the news, she revealed she was ‘absolutely over the moon’, going on: ‘It’s about time justice has been done…

Harvey was targeted by officers in the WhatsApp group messages

‘Not only that they are professionals that we trust, that we should trust who have done this… and now an example is going to be put out there and something is going to be done.’

She added: ‘What I’ve actually seen and read what these police officers have said it’s beyond like beyond what you could ever imagine how evil and how spiteful people can actually be, and how they even think it’s funny…

‘It’s actually disgusting… Harvey doesn’t deserve this, no one does.’

When asked by Katie how it made him feel when people were horrible to him, Harvey said: ‘Angry and sad’

When asked by Katie how it made him feel when people were horrible to him, Harvey said: ‘Angry and sad’.

Katie said she was in two minds whether to take Harvey to court for their sentencing: ‘I don’t know whether to turn up to the court with Harvey…

‘Number one so the police officers can face Harvey and see how innocent he is, but obviously I don’t want to use Harvey as a bit of bait…

‘Because it’s not also fair on Harvey, but its like I want them to see what they’ve done like, to someone like Harvey, how innocent he is. Why did he deserve that? You know? I’m in two minds what to do.’

This is a breaking news story.
