- The pensioner’s daughter revealed that £40 was taken from the purse
This is the shocking moment a carer for a pensioner is caught stealing money from her purse.
The footage was recorded by the pensioner’s daughter who placed a hidden camera in her frail mother’s bedroom after money started going missing.
The daughter, who does not want to be named said that she was left ‘gobsmacked’ after viewing the footage which was recorded last Friday.
In it, the carer, dressed in blue overalls can be seen rummaging around the pensioner’s bedroom and then lifting up what appears to be a leather purse. After opening it, she is caught on camera taking money out of it.
The pensioner’s daughter revealed that £40 was taken from the purse and that she was forced to install a secret camera after previous incidents when around £300 in total was taken from her mother’s home in Plymouth.

She said: ‘Money going missing was happening for some time, but we weren’t exactly sure who was taking it. My mother relies on carers for her survival and has a number of them visiting her house each day.
‘So, I put a camera in the bedroom and was shocked when I saw the video, which was recorded last Friday. While I always suspected this carer, I couldn’t quite believe what I was seeing. It’s a disgusting thing to do and this carer is the lowest of the low, she should be ashamed of herself.’
After seeing the footage, the woman revealed that she confronted the carer at her home and that the stolen £40 was returned by her.
She added: ‘The carer was very embarrassed and apologetic but that’s not good enough. She should be prosecuted for what she’s done and never allowed to work as a carer again.’
The matter has been reported to Devon and Cornwall Police.
The woman said: ‘My mother is 77 years old and needs a lot of help. If she can’t trust her carers, then who can she trust?
‘My worry is that this kind of thing happening all over the country because there are a lot of elderly, vulnerable people who rely on their carers and give them full access to their homes. This time we got lucky but how much of this is going unreported?’
