Moment shirtless reveller leaps from top of street light to an awning

Wild moment shirtless reveller leaps from the top of a street light on to an awning as a crowd cheers him on

  • With Dean Cecil Pearson on top of the pole, one onlooker roars out ‘Do it!’
  • Another’s only concern about the leap was he didn’t capture it on his phone
  • Pearson, 43, is due to face Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning

A daredevil who jumped 10m from a lamppost onto an awning in a wild and chaotic scene survived a hard landing but his bank account may not.

Dean Cecil Pearson, 43, stood on top of the street light on Kent Street in the Perth  suburb of Rockingham as a crowd egged him on in front of police officers.

‘Do it!’ one man shouts as Mr Pearson stood up from his crouched position and made his leap across the footpath below.

Police arrived at the scene about 11.30pm on Saturday after reports of a man acting disorderly outside a pub.

‘It was from there that he climbed the lamp post,’ police told Daily Mail Australia.

After being encouraged by some of those watching to go for it, Mr Pearson jumped and landed feet first with a very loud thud on the awning.

The awning did not break under the weight and force of his landing, and Mr Pearson staggered forward onto his front, but got up again a couple of seconds later.

Amid the concerned screaming, a man is clearly heard saying ‘F**k I put my phone down at the wrong time.’

Mr Pearson, who is from High Wycombe in Perth’s hills, was arrested as soon as he got down from the awning.

He was charged with disorderly behaviour in a public place, disorderly behaviour in a police station or lockup, and obscene acts in public.

He will appear Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning.

Many of the commenters pointed out that Pearson was going to to be in pain after his leap.

Pearson hit the awning with a sickening and very loud thump, but got up a couple of seconds later, only to be then arrested
