Moment Yodel delivery driver appears to spit on a customer's letterbox

‘Disgusting’ moment Yodel delivery driver appears to spit on a customer’s letterbox in footage caught on doorbell camera

  • The man was seen apparently gobbing after making a delivery on February 13
  • Yodel has condemned the footage and says it has taken ‘appropriate action’

This is the ‘disgusting’ moment a Yodel delivery driver was caught appearing to spit on a customer’s letterbox.

The courier had been delivering a package to the Birkenhead home of Belle Sutton at 1.30pm on February 13 when he was spotted apparently gobbing by her doorbell camera.

The 19-year-old said she had left a note on the Yodel app asking for the package to be left in a ‘safe space’ behind her bin, outside her flat.

The health assistant, who had been working at the time, was instead left ‘absolutely fuming’ when she discovered the act after being notified someone had been at her front door.

Delivery firm Yodel has apologised Ms Sutton and said it had taken ‘appropriate action’ – but failed to confirm if the individual was still working for them.

Ms Sutton, who knew she would be at work at the time of the delivery said she left instructions for the courier about what to do with the package.

‘I left a note on the “safe spot” bit online saying I won’t be in so can you please leave it behind the green bin,’ she said.

‘He tried to ring my ring doorbell and just spat on my letterbox because I wasn’t in. I got a notification at work saying someone had been at my front door so I went to the staff room and checked.

‘I was absolutely fuming, how disgusting. How does that benefit him? How has spitting on my letterbox made his day?

‘I think for other people’s safety he should be sacked. Not everyone has a ring doorbell. Imagine if he had Covid and he did that to an old woman and she touches it. I disinfected the letterbox when I got home.’

Ms Sutton claims she made a complaint to Yodel’s webchat and a customer service agent left her a voicemail reassuring her that they were taking the complaint to ‘the highest level’.

She posted the video on social media where commenters were left horrified and urged her to report the incident to the police.

One person said: ‘I hope Yodel sack him the f*****g tramp.’

Another wrote: ‘Oh my God, report him and with all this Covid I’m sure he can be prosecuted for spitting.’

A third added: ‘This is a public health issue on your property. Police.’

Ms Sutton added: ‘I missed their [Yodel’s] call back but they left me a voicemail. The voicemail said they were taking my complaint to the highest level.

‘People think it’s disgusting and I should report it to the police but I’ll just let Yodel deal with it.

‘It’s my first time using them and I probably won’t use them again.

‘It’s scary to think what he’d be doing if they didn’t have video footage. He rang my ring doorbell so he knew I had video footage.’

A Yodel spokesperson condemned the footage and said the company had taken action.

‘We take driver behaviour very seriously and this incident clearly does not meet our high standards,’ they said.

‘We have taken appropriate action and reached out to the customer to express our sincere apologies.’
