About 2 inches of snow has fallen at Denver International Airport over the past two days. While snow has been slow, DIA hit a record low of seven below zero early Wednesday. Combining Denver’s conditions with the wide-ranging impacts of the storm around the country and it’s made for some issues getting in and out of Denver.
DIA has had 34 flights delayed on Wednesday and another 138 canceled, according to FlightAware.com.
Southwest, SkyWest and CommutAir have been the hardest hit for the second day in a row. On Tuesday, 129 flights were canceled at DIA, but another 830 were delayed — nearly 60% of the airport’s traffic.
If you are traveling to the airport, it is a good idea to check in on your flight’s status before heading out to the airport.
Snow and cold weather are expected to continue for the rest of the week, which could continue impacting airport operations.
Peña Boulevard is icy in some spots, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation but still open. Officials always caution driving slower and leaving more space between vehicles in adverse weather. If you use public transport like the RTD A-Line, check in on your journey as many RTD trips get delayed on wintery days.
