The family of a missing mum who hasn't been seen since she disappeared eight weeks ago are fearing the worst since they lost all contact with her in January.

Mum-of-five Carol Mighall from Birkenhead was last on CCTV in a convenience store in the Wirral.

She had bought a litre bottle of vodka and 20 cigarettes and then walked towards Birkenhead Central Station.

Carol's family said it would "mean the world to them to have her back for Mother's Day" and that her disappearance is completely out of character.

Desperate to find her they are keeping a daily lookout hoping to spot something which might help them uncover the mystery.

Merseyside Police said they have had no confirmed sightings of the grandmother-of-nine and are "becoming extremely concerned" for Carol's welfare.

Tasha Price, Carol's niece, told the Liverpool Echo: "It feels like she's just fallen off the face of the earth. We've got no leads, we've had no sightings that are confirmed, we have no idea where she is.

"We're such a big family, we cover the area of Birkenhead."

She added: "She's not used any money on her bank card, she's not been to the doctors to get her prescriptions or to appointments. She's not changed doctors and she's not tried to contact anyone she knows on a personal level."

Carol's grandchildren have poignantly left messages on missing posters in the area saying "nanny please come home."

Tasha said: "Her grandchildren are her absolute world. Her grandson had his first birthday without her and it's her other grandson's 10th birthday next week.

"We've got a lot of birthdays coming up and Mother's Day. To have her walk through that door would mean the absolute world and more to us.

"Whatever problems she's facing would all just disappear, we would sort it out for her.

"We just want to know she's okay and she's safe. If she doesn't want to come home that's her own choice, she's an adult.

"We're not angry, she's not in trouble, we just want to know that she's okay."

Tasha added that Carol's partner of 36 years, David Doyle, has recorded all the documentaries they used to watch together for when she comes home, revealing he can't bring himself to watch them without her.

In a statement Merseyside Police said: "Extensive enquiries have been carried out and we have received numerous reports since she was last seen but no confirmed sightings.

"Carol is described as a white female, 5ft 4in tall, of slim build and with a pale complexion. She has brown shoulder length hair, often worn in a ponytail.

"When last seen she was wearing a khaki coloured parka-style coat with grey fur on the hood, blue jeans and black and white speckled trainers. She was also carrying a black handbag with a shoulder strap.

"She is known to frequent Birkenhead and Liverpool city centre and may also have links to Chester.

"We are becoming extremely concerned for Carol’s welfare. Anyone who has seen Carol or knows of her whereabouts is asked to DM @MerPolCC or @missingpeople on 116 000."
