'Mum' of kids found dead in suitcases says 'I didn't do it' after murder arrest

A woman suspected to be the mother of two young children whose remains were found in suitcases has been arrested on murder charges.

The children, aged between five and 10, had been dead for years before the chilling discovery in New Zealand on August 11.

A South Auckland family was left horrified after buying the suitcases from a storage unit in an online auction.

The suspect, 42, repeatedly told reporters ‘I did not do it’ as officers escorted her to a car following her detainment in Ulsan, South Korea.

She hid her face with the hood of her coat before climbing in the vehicle which was headed to Seoul.

South Korean police say it’s believed she could be the mother of the two victims.

Her past address in New Zealand was allegedly registered to the storage unit where the suitcases were kept for years.

Officers in New Zealand had previously informed their foreign counterparts that the mother of the schoolkids might be living in South Korea.

The suspect was born in South Korea but later moved to New Zealand, where she gained citizenship. She returned to South Korea in 2018.

She now faces a review at the Seoul High Court over whether she should be extradited, according to Park Seung-hoon, an official at the National Police Agency.

The family that found the bodies are not linked to the deaths and were ‘understandably distressed by the discovery’.

The children cannot be named due to a suppression order.
