Mum of twins who died in husband’s roasting 107F car fears he will kill himself if he’s jailed – The Sun

THE mum of one-year-old twins who died in the back of her husband's scorching hot car is worried he could kill himself if he is sent to jail.

Marissa Rodriguez revealed she's concerned her husband, Juan Rodriguez, is suicidal after losing their daughter Luna and son Phoenix in an interview on the Dr. Phil show.

"He still had that, I think, in mind if he were to go to jail over this," she said.

Juan, an Iraq War veteran, was "in a very dark place" following the tragedy and has been "extremely" hard on himself as both parents continue to live their own "personal hell," Marissa added.

The 39-year old father mistakenly left his twin tots locked in the backseat of a sweltering 107F (42C) car for eight hours on July 26 in the Bronx, New York.

He told police he "blanked out" and thought he'd dropped them off at day care on the way to his job at the Veteran Affairs Hospital.

Witnesses say the devastated dad screamed "I killed my babies!" when he returned to the car after his shift to see their bodies.

He was arrested and charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and child endangerment, but has since pleaded not guilty and is currently out on a $100,000 bond.

Marissa said husband hasn't directly asked for forgiveness, but she noted that he "continuously apologizes."

Despite bouts of anger since the death of her babies, she knows it was a "terrible accident" and forgave Juan because she knows he's a "loving", "caring", and "devoted" father.
