Mum slams 'disgusting excuse of a human' police officer who repeatedly raped her young daughter as he's jailed | The Sun

A MUM today slammed a "disgusting" police officer who repeatedly raped her daughter as he was jailed for 18 years.

James Ford, 31, abused the girl, who was under the age of 13, during a two-year reign of terror.

The victim's mum today branded Ford a "disgusting excuse of a human being" as he was jailed for 18 years and three months.

She also told how her "sweet, innocent, chatty, friendly girl" is "no longer the happy, sociable girl she was before".

The mum added: "No child should have to go through what she has."

She also hit out over Ford's job as a serving officer – saying "you should be able to trust a police officer".

In a victim impact statement, she added: "No prison sentence is ever going to be long enough for what happened."

Ford was previously convicted of four counts of rape, four of sexual assault and two of causing or inciting a child under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity.

He also cried as he was found guilty of carrying out an act tending and intended to pervert the course of public justice.

This related to Ford "deliberately" wiping his mobile to cover his sickening crimes.

The vile offences took place between late 2019 and late 2021.

Sentencing, Mr Justice Simon Bryan described Ford's crimes as a "horrific catalogue of serious sexual offending against a young child".

He also called the cop a "disgrace to your office", adding: "As a serving police officer you, of all people, should have protected society against sexual abusers, and you acted as a perpetrator of such vile crimes yourself."

The intervention officer joined Hertfordshire Police in December 2019 and was a uniformed response officer based in the east of the county.

He has been suspended from the force since November 2021 and now faces a fast-track dismissal hearing.

The case was referred to the police watchdog and independently investigated by specialist officers based within the Child Abuse Investigation and Safeguarding Unit (CAISU) at Cambridgeshire Police.

Det Insp Susie Hine, of Cambridgeshire Constabulary, paid tribute to the "courage and bravery of the victim and her immediate family who have acted with huge dignity throughout".

"Through the victim's powerful testimony, the jury were left in no doubt and now a predatory sex offender is behind bars," she said.

"Cases of this nature are both disturbing and upsetting and I want to reassure the public, there is no place for an offender to hide no matter who they are.
