My baby girl suffered a scorching hot burn while playing her toys in the heatwave… parents need to be careful | The Sun

A MUM was horrified when her toddler suffered a scorching hot burn while playing with her toys in the heatwave.

Louise Blundell, 41, was playing outside with daughter Harriet when the 16-month-old girl was left with a deep red mark on her leg.

The incident on Sunday afternoon when temperatures peaked at 26C at the family home in Norwich, Norfolk.

Louise said she was in the back garden with Harriet at around 3pm when she put her on a blue tricycle with a plastic seat.

Hours later, Louise discovered the three-inch-long burn mark on her daughter's right leg.

Louise, an education advisor, said: "I changed her nappy after dinner and saw this deep red mark.

"Later in the evening we had a cold bath and the mark went from red to white.

"I don't want people's children to suffer like this. Play equipment is hotter than you think.

"I thought it was fine but I realised there's a lasting affect from the sun."

Louise, who also lives with partner Chris Newman, 42, and son James, three, said her daughter didn't seem to be bothered by the burn.

Last year experts issued a warning for children playing in paddling pools during a heatwave because they can become a breeding ground for dangerous bacteria and bugs if they are not cleaned daily.

Homehow's Joyce French told The Sun: "As the warm weather settles in, more people are digging out their paddling pools to entertain the children in the family.

"If you are using a paddling pool regularly, it is important that you clean it and empty it on a daily basis. This is important to prevent bacteria from lurking in your paddling pool."

And almost half of adults never wear sunglasses to protect their eyes from the bright light, a poll suggests.

It comes as Brits today flock to beaches to bask in 30C heat.

And extreme heat warnings are in place from today ahead of an "exceptional hot spell on Monday and Tuesday”.

The Met Office issued a level four "danger to life" warning for the first time.

Experts warned Brits not to travel on Monday and Tuesday, and to work from home amid the warnings of extreme heat.

Network Rail said there will likely be train delays and cancellations.

It comes amid warnings UK infrastructure is unequipped to deal with the heat.

A level four warning is only used when the heat is so severe that even fit and healthy people can be struck down by illness.
