My dog saved my life after he noticed a tell-tale sign on a walk – I'm eternally grateful

A DOG owner told how his clever pooch saved his life by noticing a tell-tale sign on a walk.

Mike Hockney, 60, spotted his cavapoo Smudge gentle nudging him while out in the countryside near Clayton-le-Woods.

The owner believes his clever pooch was letting him know his blood sugar was dangerously low.

Mark avoided going into diabetic shock thanks to Smudge's clever actions.

“I honestly believe that Smudge has a superpower," he said.

“I didn’t realise what was happening, but Smudge seemed to pick up on the danger and kept nudging me until I stopped and sat down.

“I finally took notice and realised myself what was wrong. I managed to get my blood sugar levels under control and was able to safely get back home.

“The most incredible part of this story is that Smudge has had no training in detecting when I need help with my diabetes – he’s learnt it all by himself and I’m eternally grateful that Smudge was able to help me and save me from a potentially life-threatening situation.”
