New dad plays Football Manager on his laptop in labour ward

Dropping the ball? Dad-to-be plays Football Manager game on his laptop in labour ward after ‘super grumpy’ wife refused his help during contractions

  • Dad-to-be Glenn Walton decided to dip into his overnight bag and kill some time
  • He loaded up his laptop to step into the world of virtual football management

Despite his partner preparing to give birth to his son just feet away, this dad-to-be still made time to play Football Manager as he waited in the labour ward.

Glenn Walton, 40, who runs his own football academy, originally from Manchester, England, but now lives in New Jersey, joined his American partner Danielle, 37, in hospital when she went into labour.

After his offer to help was refused by his partner, who was struggling to deal with the pain of the contractions, Walton decided to dip into his overnight bag and kill some time.

The man loaded up his laptop to step into the world of virtual football management while his wife continued to be ‘super grumpy’ as she dealt with the painful contractions.

Football has always been a huge part of Glenn’s life, and it is not only his career but also his number one passion.

The football fan is so passionate about the beautiful game that each of his four kids have names linked to former players from the club he supports, Manchester United.

The expectant parents arrived at 12:35am and welcomed a new member to their family, Jack Rooney Walton, at 1:33am – leaving Glenn just under an hour to get his football manager fix.

Glenn said: ‘She was super grumpy with the contractions and no matter how much help I offered, she kept snapping at me. I had my laptop in my overnight bag to do some work, but I thought it’s time for football manager while she calms down.

‘He was born so quick – I only had time to sell Conor Gallagher from my Chelsea team to Juventus before the nurses called me over to help with the push.

‘Danielle didn’t see that I was on it until it got shared thousands of times and she laughed her head off when she saw.

‘I’ve received lots of funny messages about ‘acquiring a new youth player’ and lots of men were tagging their pregnant wives asking if they could bring their laptops to hospital.’

If playing Football Manager while his partner entered labour wasn’t enough, Walton was then caught on the video game just days after when he expertly multitasked while still holding his son.
