Authorities in Ohio are investigating the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy who was killed moments after taking out the trash out.
On Sunday afternoon, Columbus police received a 911 call reporting gunshots and someone lying in the middle of the road near Hazelwood Road. Upon arrival, officers found 14-year-old Dayvion Jones shot, a Columbus police release states.
Dayvion was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. According to police, the boy was walking on Hazelwood Road when he was confronted by a group of men in a stolen SUV.
During the confrontation, one of the men pulled out a gun and shot Dayvion. The group then fled the area and crashed the SUV, forcing them to flee on foot.
Dayvion's mother, Kim, told local station WBNS that moments before her son's death, Dayvion had kissed her on the cheek and taken out the trash.
"We hear gunshots and, we're like 'Oh, my God, is somebody shooting at our house?' This is how close it was," she said.
Immediately, she began to look for her son.
"I got in the car and it's like my car wouldn't drive fast enough and when I got there the police, they all were pulling up but my son was in the middle of the street face down, dead," she said, according to WBNS.
