One dead, one missing after kayaks swamped on Lake Pueblo

One person is dead and another missing after three kayaks were swamped by high winds and waves on Lake Pueblo Sunday, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

Each of the three kayaks was carrying an adult and a child, the agency said in a statement. All were swamped along the north shore of the lake inside Lake Pueblo State Park.

One adult died, one child was airlifted to a hospital, and another adult is missing, the statement said.

Because of dangerous high winds Sunday, park rangers were not able to search by boat, and instead searched for the missing adult from the shore and with an underwater drone, the agency said in a statement.

The lake saw 23 mph winds with 35 mph gusts, the statement said. Winds are expected to remain high until Sunday evening.

Additional information was not immediately available.
