One man is killed and seven crew members are rescued after a Scottish Trawler capsizes off Norway

  • Three people inhaled diesel after the Njord took on water near Stavanger 
  • The crew members of the Scottish vessel were flown by helicopter to hospital 
  • The man who died and other crew members are believed to not be Norwegian
  • Five further crew members were also recued by a boat and taken to safety 

One man has been killed and seven crew members have been rescued after a Scottish Trawler capsized off the coast of Norway. 

Three people from the Scottish vessel inhaled diesel with one of them dying after they were found in distress 100 miles from Stavanger.  

Five further crew members from the fishing vessel were also rescued by a boat and take to safety. 

The 30-year-old Scottish trawler ran into difficulty after taking on water, the BBC has said.

No details have been released on the dead man or other crew members but its believed three of them were flown to Haukeland University Hospital in Bergen by helicopter.    

It is believed none of the crew are Norwegian. 

Norwegian Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre said the Peterhead-registered Njord’s emergency position-indicating radio beacon (EPIRB) raised the alarm. 

But they had no radio contact with the vessel before  being called at 13.39pm on Sunday. 

The trawler left Peterhead on Saturday at 12:28pm, according to ship tracking software.
