Special guest and Bowel Cancer UK fundraiser Dafydd Jones tweeted the behind the scenes picture of last-minute party preparations this morning.

He wrote: ‘Behind the scenes here on The Mall, looks like a lift has been installed for Her Majesty’s comfort to take her to the Royal Box’.

The Queen is not expected to attend the Platinum Party at Buckingham Palace tonight.

It is set to take place hours after the Epsom Derby, which the Queen will miss due to ‘discomfort’ she felt on the Palace balcony on Thursday.

Performers at tonight’s Jubilee bash include Diana Ross, Rod Stewart, Queen and Adam Lambert, Alicia Keys, Elbow, George Ezra, Duran Duran, Andrea Bocelli, and Eurovision star Sam Ryder.

The Queen was pictured with the aid of her walking stick outside Windsor on Thursday

Soul legend Nile Rodgers, Craig David, dance troupe Diversity, and master composer Hans Zimmer are also on the lineup.

Her Majesty was unable to attend the service of thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral on Friday after suffering illness during the first day of celebrations.

The Queen, 96, was represented at the service by her son Prince Charles, 73, after she pulled out.

Her son Prince Andrew was also missing after testing positive for Covid-19 yesterday but her three other children, eight grandchildren, and their respective spouses were all present, as were a selection of cousins and their families.

Avid racegoer the Queen will also miss Epsom later today, though other Royals are expected to attend.

Phil White, London regional director for The Jockey Club, said: ‘We would like to wish Her Majesty The Queen a wonderful Platinum Jubilee.

‘It is a rare occasion that the Queen is unable to join us at Epsom Downs but we are delighted she plans to enjoy Derby Day on television.

‘We have big plans to celebrate Her Majesty’s contribution to horseracing and the nation, and these will continue in full tomorrow.

‘The Derby is a unique race and we are looking forward to welcoming people in their thousands to help us create a spectacular carnival atmosphere.’

Meanwhile viewers of the BBC’s Jubilee coverage were thrilled to see Kirsty Young return to present proceedings.

The broadcaster, 53, hosted the classic Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs for 12 years before taking a break from it in 2018.

She announced she would be leaving to receive treatment for a form of fibromyalgia – a condition that causes pain all over the body – and was replaced by Lauren Laverne, 44.

In July 2019 she confirmed her temporary break would be permanent, saying it had inspired her to ‘pursue new challenges’.

Viewers were thrilled to see the popular presenter back on the BBC, with one tweeting: ‘Haven’t been watching much of the Jubilee stuff today but my main takeaway is how lovely it is to see Kirsty Young finally back.’

Another wrote: ‘Lovely to see #KirstyYoung. A first-class presenter. Fabulous presentation by the #BBC. Really enjoyed watching.’
