Outrage after school trip ends with ‘pupils playing on stripper poles at club’

A school district has faced a wave of outrage after they allegedly brought children to a restaurant that was fitted with a stripper pole.

Said school district is also reportedly calling for legal action to be taken against a trustee who exposed the trip to Niki's Pizza, a risqué pizza place that doubles as a nightclub.

Sixth-grade band and orchestra students were taken to the Detroit, United States-based restaurant, following a performance by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

Taking the students to the Greektown-based eatery, a Rochester Community Schools trustee has since commented on the controversial decision to take them to the stripper pole-clad venue.

Andrew Weaver aired the alleged trip on Facebook, saying: "The students were moved from Niki’s Pizza due to a lack of available space to the Lounge where they tried out some pole dancing."

A photo of the children playing on the poles was also said to be taken, with Weaver's post on his blog Finding the Right Answer.

Rochester Community Schools representative Lori Grein has since denied the allegations.

In a statement, she said: "Proposed field trips are evaluated by a curriculum team and require a parental/guardian permission slip. The safety and security of our students, staff and school community is always our priority."

Niki's Pizza owner Agatha Kefallinos said: "Typically when we have a group of over 100 people, we give them the option of going to our second floor, which is operated as a club on Saturday nights but is closed during the day.

"We’ve been doing this for 20 years. We’ve had dozens of school groups, and there was never an issue."

Kefallinos added that the stripper poles were simply "part of the decorations" at the venue, New York Post reported.
