Royal fans have said the Buckingham Palace balcony "should be reserved for working royals" following reports that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry could come to Trooping of the Colour next year.
The event is known for the balcony moment but it is uncertain whether the Sussexes would feature in the iconic scene next year.
It comes following reports that Archie and his baby sister Lilibet could make their Buckingham Palace balcony debuts on the Queen's Platinum Jubilee next year.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are said to be planning a visit to the UK to attend his grandmother's celebrations at the beginning of June 2022, with recent reports saying Her Maj has invited the Sussexes along for the party.
A source speaking to The Mail on Sunday said: "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been invited and I'm sure the Queen is very much looking forward to seeing them there.
"The balcony moment will be decided much nearer the time but there's a limit to how many family members should be on it, and I would have thought that working Royals who contribute to the family would be higher on the list than the Sussexes."
Fans seemed to agree with the sentiment and many appeared to suggest the Sussexes shouldn't take part.
Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: "The balcony appearance should be reserved for working royals only. Why afford the Markles the opportunity when they have betrayed the institution itself?"
Another wrote: "I expect them to be there as the queen will want her whole family there but they should absolutely not be given any of the top seats or be on the balcony.
"This is what they wanted. Not to do the work but do the global events. After what they have said they shouldn't be allowed ever."
But another fan pointed out: "If it was for working royals only then that would mean no Prince Andrew, Prince Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Zara, Peter, the cousins, nieces and nephews and grandchildren on the Queen.
"The only working royals are the Wales, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Princess Anne and Wessexes."
