Paralysed dog who was dumped on street finds forever home on canal boat

A frightened dog who was found completely paralysed after she was dumped on the street has found her forever home on a canal boat

Dog walker Elodie Gueydon and her partner Alexandre Davy, from West London, adopted Lottie after she endured a traumatic past in Romania.

In distressing footage, Lottie could be seen using her two front legs to drag the rest of her body after she was found hiding under a wooden pallet in 2020.

"We don’t know what happened to her," Elodie told the Daily Star. "The vet said the trauma didn't look big so we think she has been abused."

"From half of her back, she is completely numb. She also wears nappies."

Lottie, four, was saved by Flori's Friends Rescue who then helped her get her legs amputated before bringing her to the UK.

Despite the poor pooch being left needing a wheelchair, the charity says she is one of their "most active disabled dogs".

She can often be found whizzing around and playing with her canine friends, but all of this could be put to a halt if she doesn't get a new wheelchair.

Speaking about the importance of her chair, Elodie, 32, said: "Lottie was found on the Romanian streets with both rear legs paralysed, she was found under a wood pallet, dragging herself.

"The wheelchair is simply her legs. When she sees it she is so happy! She can run and jump and [ becomes ] a proper 4×4."

Elodie said she wanted to adopt a disabled dog and came across Lottie on Facebook.

The dog walker added: "Since the first day we adopted her she has been an amazing dog. She adapted straight away.

"She is the happiest dog on earth. She is so sweet with humans and is not traumatised at all.

"Lottie loves to play with dogs [and] comes with me everyday to work."

Speaking about how Lottie has adapted to their narrow boat, Elodie said: "At home, she is off the wheels and drags herself.

"She stays on the sofa the whole time, as she has more than a three hours walk everyday.

"She loves her boat and her life. Because of all of the exercise she has super strong arms."

Elodie has launched a fundraiser to help purchase a new wheelchair for Lottie because she "destroyed her wheels" from exercising.

She has raised over £400 so far.

"I'm so so grateful for all the donations I literally can't wait to receive her new cart," Elodie commented.

"Without it, she would have to stay home and this isn’t a possibility."

Flori's Friends Rescue said Lottie has made big strides since being rescued during the pandemic.

A spokesperson for the charity said: "Lottie is an amazing dog with everything she's been through. She just gets on with it.

"She deserves a new chair and gets through them [her wheels] so quick because she is so active.

"She went through an awful time. She's an absolute inspiration."
