Fallen fashion mogul Peter Nygard allegedly tried to “bribe” his young daughter with a $1 million house to co-sign his bail package and publicly proclaim his innocence, she told Canadian authorities.
“I told him like I’m pretty sure, sureties are not supposed to be, you’re not supposed to get anything in return,” the 20-year-old college student told police after her 79-year-old dad called her from jail in January, according to a transcript of her interview released Thursday.
“I do think that it was in a sense a bribe.”
Nygard, who is charged in Manhattan federal court with sexually assaulting and raping dozens of girls and women, is locked up at a Canadian prison while awaiting extradition to the US.
The daughter — whose name was ordered withheld — added that she wasn’t comfortable saying she believed he was innocent.
“It put me in a very, very difficult position,” she told Royal Canadian Mounted Police Sergeant Lance Goldau in a March 4 interview. “Because you don’t want to abandon this person that you came from but…if I do this am I basically slapping, slapping the victims in the face?”
“I don’t fully believe him,” she added.
Nygard made the call to his daughter from Headingley Correctional Centre after Canadian authorities shot down his initial bid for bail.
In addition to the home, he said he’d sign an affidavit acknowledging paternity. The Bahamian woman, who attends university in Canada, didn’t learn that Nygard was her father until later in life.
The young woman considered the proposal, but after conducting some research, she realized that she didn’t qualify as a surety since she wasn’t Canadian and that the proposed quid pro quo wasn’t legal.
The transcript of her interview was released as a hearing continued in the Manitoba Court of Appeal in Winnipeg appealing a lower judge’s decision last month to deny Nygard bail for the second time.
It was also revealed in newly released court papers that Nygard has a cushy set up in jail.
An affidavit from a supervisor at the prison wrote that Nygard has a three-person cell all to himself which contains a TV, a plastic chair and his own personal phone.
“No other cell at HCC has similar phone access,” the supervisor wrote.
The silver-maned designer was arrested in December, accused of drugging and raping women as young as 14 to satisfy a “near-daily” appetite for sex, according to Manhattan federal prosecutors.
The designer hosted “Pamper Parties” at his Bahamas and Los Angeles mansions to recruit fresh victims, prosecutors say.
One of his latest accusers to come forward is supermodel Beverly Peele who exclusively told The Post that Nygard had allegedly sexually assaulted her and impregnated her.
He has been sued by 57 women who say he abused them.
Nygard has denied any wrongdoing.
