Petrol station boss ‘flogs cheapest fuel in UK’ amid cost of living crisis

A petrol station has offered fuel for the lowest price in the UK in a bid to help locals with the cost of living crisis.

The Limes Service Station on Manchester Road in Walkden has undercut pretty much ever forecourt in the country by around 20p per litre, offering unleaded petrol for 169.9p per litre, while diesel is being sold for 185.9p.

Co-director Hassan Mohammed told the Manchester Evening News that this makes them the “cheapest in the country”.

The Bolton native said: “At the moment, the cost of living has soared significantly for everyone and prices for butter and everyday goods are constantly rising every day.

“People’s disposable incomes are being affected in a major way and we know that petrol is one of the biggest costs for people.

“We thought we’d like to do something for our community in Walkden.

“We’ve been here for seven years now and we’ve always tried to support our community. It’s not a gimmick, we want to help people save a bit of money.

“We’re putting a lot into it and we hope we can sustain it for a minimum of seven days but as petrol and diesel are a commodity, their prices do fluctuate- if prices allow us, we will keep it going for longer.”

He admitted that he will be keeping it at that price for at least a week to begin with and Hassan said he’s already had customers thank him and show their appreciation for the money-saving idea.

He was able to make the prices cheaper after deciding to put his own savings back into the business – which is a Texaco franchise.

“My aim is to sustain these prices for at least the next week and then, if the pricing allows us, we will try and keep it going for as long as we can,” he added.

The Limes Service Station on Manchester Road is open everyday from 6am to 10pm.
