Police are hunting for an attacker responsible for randomly throwing apples and tomatoes at people in a string of unprovoked drive-bys on the south coast.
Some pedestrians in the seaside towns of Hastings and Eastbourne, East Sussex, have even been left seriously injured by the bizarre random assaults on them as they went about their daily lives.
One woman in her 40s was shockingly left with a broken cheekbone after being struck in the face last Friday.
Seven apples, tomatoes and other ‘projectiles’ are said to have been thrown from a vehicle over the course of three days last week.
The unprovoked incidents began at around 7.30pm last Wednesday when a pedestrian as left with minor injuries after being smacked in the face by an apple while walking around a busy street in Hastings.

Just a day later, another person was struck in the arm with a tomato while walking along a residential road in Eastbourne at around 8pm.
Sussex Police confirmed that another victim was then on the receiving end of stray tomato at around 1.15pm on Friday – just 10 minutes away from the previous Eastbourne assault.
Shortly after this, someone else was struck in the face with an unknown object some 20 minutes away on Ashford Road, Eastbourne, leaving them with minor injuries.
Around an hour-and-a-half later on the same day, a pedestrian was struck on the head with a tomato near a Lidl supermarket on Bohemia Road in Hastings, police said.
In a wave of attacks that came on the same day, another two attacks were reported around half-an-hour away on The Bourne, Hastings.
One pedestrian was hit on the head with a tomato, while another was struck in the face with an unknown object, leaving them with a broken cheekbone.
The incidents are being linked, but the victims – aged between 25 and 49 – are not thought to know each other.
So far no one has been arrested and investigators appealed for information today.

A spokesman for the force said: ‘Detectives are investigating a recent series of unprovoked attacks on members of the public in Eastbourne and Hastings. The incidents, in which people have been hit by projectiles, are being linked.
‘The projectiles are believed to be items of fruit – apples and tomatoes – and can cause significant injury. One woman has suffered a fractured cheekbone.
‘We are aware of at least seven victims who are men and women aged between 25 and 49.
‘Officers continue to make house-to-house enquiries and search CCTV footage.’
