Prince Harry to get ‘ frosty reception’ from royals at coronation, says expert

After a long negotiation, Prince Harry has decided to attend the ceremony on his own, meaning the Duke of Sussex is set for an "awkward" day,

Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly insisted on being told exactly where they would be sitting before they agreed to confirm whether they would be attending King Charles’s coronation on May 5.

Royal expert Tom Quinn says the 38-year-old Duke is likely to have a very uncomfortable day by going alone.

The author of Gilded Youth: An Intimate History of Growing Up in the Royal Family told the Daily Star: “It will be very awkward with Harry on his own – a very frosty atmosphere. There will be cursory nods to various people but there won’t be any conversation before he disappears after the event”.

The Prince of Wales has no intention of speaking to his brother, it’s been reported, and several other members of the Royal Family have hinted that they will only be exchanging the briefest of greetings with Harry.

William was said to be “burning inside” over certain passages in his brother’s book.

“He is loyal to the throne and understands what needs to be done for the country,” a source close to Prince William told The Times.

“Not everyone here behaved well, but Harry’s got to be able to sit down and say ‘we didn’t behave well either’. That takes a lot of academic flexibility, which Harry isn’t great at.”

Harry, like his uncle Prince Andrew, is likely to be placed in a less prominent spot.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said that the coronation will be "rooted in long-standing traditions and pageantry" but also "reflect the monarch's role today and look towards the future".

PM Rishi Sunak is almost certain to be there, but while 80 MPs and peers have been invited there have been some ruffled feathers after it emerged that they wouldn’t be getting a “plus one”.

US President Joe Biden will not be present but is expected to send First lady Dr. Jill Biden to represent the United States.
