Footage of Prince Harry going for a topless swim was included in the Sussexes' new Netflix series to help make the prince look 'carefree and cool', according to a crisis management expert.

The final three episodes of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's controversial Netflix documentary series were released on the streaming platform yesterday (December 15).

The episodes showcased more behind-the-scenes moments from the couple's lives, including a private family holiday they took shortly before announcing they would 'step back' as senior members of the Royal Family.

The couple gushed about their trip to Vancouver Island, Canada, during episode five of the series, with Meghan claiming: "It was so peaceful. You could breathe for a minute", while Harry added: "It was absolutely amazing".

Private clips of the family holiday included the couple showing baby Archie the snow, taking the dogs for a walk, decorating a Christmas tree and Harry's topless New Year's Day dip in a freezing lake.

In two clips taken by Meghan which were included in the episode, Harry can be seen clad in bright turquoise swimming trunks before jumping into the cold water.

The prince then begins jumping up and down and shouting as Meghan laughs behind the camera.

After the videos are shown, Harry discusses the moment with the documentary crew, telling the camera: "I came out so refreshed and I was like here we go 2020, whatcha got?"

While the videos appear to show some light-hearted moments of fun from their trip, one expert has claimed that there's a very specific reason they were included in the documentary.

Edward Coram-James, a crisis management expert and CEO of Go Up, told the Daily Star: "This image is designed to make Harry appear carefree and cool.

"It is aimed at a younger generation of viewers and is an attempt to humanise him and make him relevant to current crucial cultural conversations surrounding mental health."

Since the release of the final episodes of their documentary, aimed to show their side of the story, the Sussesexes have received huge amounts of backlash.

Hoards of viewers have taken to Twitter to criticise the couple for 'complaining' about their lives.

One person said: "I think the best word to describe Harry and Meghan would be 'ungrateful'! Each of them blessed beyond measure and all we hear them do is whine and complain!"

Another added: "I’m tired of 'Prince' Harry & Meghan whining. Whining and getting millions to complain 'no one loves me best'. Being royal brings privilege but it’s also work & responsibility."

A third wrote: "I don’t feel sorry for Harry and Meghan. They are very rich and have no reason to complain about anything. They’ve made a lot of trouble and won’t go away which will make them continue to be unpopular."

Edward said that the couple has a 'relatability problem' and that they added 'down to earth' scenes like Harry's swim into their Netflix documentary to tackle this issue.

He said: "Harry and Meghan have, so far, suffered from a relatability problem. 'Look at them complaining. Is your castle not big enough?'

"Scenes like this are designed to bring them back down to earth and remind the target audience that the Sussexes may be royal, but they are also human beings."
