The Queen is the the greatest British monarch of all time because she is "transcendently boring", according to a leading historian.
The comments came after our longest-serving monarch, 96, celebrated her Platinum Jubilee earlier this month.
Although the assessment doesn't sound entirely flattering, historian Tom Holland actually hailed Her Majesty as "a very witty woman".

Speaking at the Chalke Valley History Festival with his brother James Holland yesterday (June 21), Tom warned that we will face a "dislocating twist that the past has gone" when her reign eventually comes to an end.
The medieval specialist and host of The Rest Is History podcast made the assessment after being asked who the best monarch was since William the Conqueror.
He said: "She is transcendently boring. She never says anything interesting. We know that she is a very witty woman, very clever. She has persevered in an actually heroic show of being boring throughout her reign."
His brother James also praised the Queen for holding herself to a high moral standard – unlike other powerful people.
For history nerds, Tom's pick for the worst monarch won't come as much of a surprise. The historian opted for King John, who narrowly beat Richard III in terms of wickedness.
John is famously implicated in the disappearance of his nephew, Arthur of Brittany, who contested the king’s claim to his inheritance until John captured him in 1202.
He also had a tendency to starve people to death, locking up 22 knights on one occasion and also the wife and son of his former friend, William de Briouze, on another.

The villainy of Richard is more well known, with Tom saying it is "unbelievable" that there's an infant and nursery school in Leicester named after him.
He's generally considered responsible for killing his two nephews, known as the Princes in the Tower, when he was meant to protect them.
Tom said he has no doubt that Richard had the boys killed, adding: "He was a terrible king. If he’d done his job, the Yorkist dynasty would have been absolutely secure, but because he grasps after the crown, he murders his nephews."
