Ravens name former Browns executive Sashi Brown new team president

The Baltimore Ravens have a new man at the top of their organization, and he's an old divisional foe.

The team announced Friday that former Cleveland Browns executive vice president Sashi Brown will take over as team president following the retirement of Dick Cass, who had held the position for 18 years.

The transition is scheduled to become effective April 1, with Brown taking over all of Cass' responsibilities for overseeing "player and staff personnel, coaching, corporate sales, operations, communications and business ventures."

Sashi Brown is well known in Cleveland

Brown is currently working as the president of Monumental Basketball and special adviser for Monumental Sports & Entertainment, the consortium that owns the NBA's Washington Wizards, WNBA's Washington Mystics and G League's Capital City Go-Go.

Prior to that, Brown worked from 2013-17 as executive vice president of the Browns, where he eventually held de facto general manager responsibilities as the team rebuilt from the ground up. During that span, Brown proved a controversial figure for some as the face of the team's analytics movement.

Some believed Brown and his emphasis on draft picks to be the architect of Cleveland's recent resurgence — which stalled out this season — while others took issue with his actual decision-making and point to the Browns' putrid record while he was in power.

Brown may be returning to the NFL now, but it's hard to see him taking on a similar role in determining personnel decisions. The Ravens already have plenty of talent, though the majority of it was injured this season, and Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta is one of the most respected GMs in the league.
