Rebekah Vardy claims Coleen Rooney IGNORED her when they first met at 2016 Euros and tells court ‘if I had seen someone new I would have made them feel a bit more welcome’
- Vardy’s statement claims Rooney did not make her welcome at Euro 2016
- She says that Rooney only said hello to her but did not make any conversation
- The statement also disputes claims that she switched seats to be near Rooney
- It is the latest revelation from the ‘Wagatha Files’ trove of court documents released after the trial ended
Rebekah Vardy says Coleen Rooney ignored her when the battling pair first met at Euro 2016 – according to a witness statement from their libel trial.
Vardy says that when the pair met at the tournament in France, Rooney said ‘hello, but did not stop to make conversation’ with her.
She added that she thought Rooney’s actions were strange saying she would have been more friendly to someone in a similar position.
Vardy’s attendance at Euro 2016 was the first time she and husband were Jamie were at a major tournament with England – with the Rooneys being ever-present with the national team since Euro 2004.
In the witness statement, Vardy said: ‘We said hello but she did not stop to make conversation.

‘I remember thinking that if I had seen someone new on their own with a child I would have made them feel a bit more welcome and maybe invited them for a drink.
‘I thought that Coleen was probably already in quite a close circle that she might not be keen on me being part of as a newcomer.’
The witness statement also disputed claims from former FA official Harpreet Robertson that she had organised to sit behind Rooney at a Euro 2016 match to ‘maximise media attention’.
Former FA family liaison officer, Harpreet Robertson, told how Rebekah ditched her allocated seats so she could sit behind Coleen Rooney for the clash between England and Wales.
The court had previously heard Rebekah sat behind Coleen to ‘maximise media attention’ and it led to ‘a commotion’ with members of Rebekah’s party and ended up causing security concerns.
Mrs Robertson dismissed Rebekah’s claims that she ended up sitting behind Coleen because the WAG had taken her seats and she ‘didn’t want to make a fuss’.
Vardy said: ‘We went to a game one day and Coleen and her family were sitting in our seats.
‘Rather than make a fuss we sat in the nearest seats available. My lot were split up and I ended up behind Coleen.
‘I later heard from Danny Hayward who was a director of Front Row Partnership, that he had been contacted by Paul Stretford, Wayne’s agent. Paul Stretford was curious about how Front Row Partnership had managed to turn the press around for me.
‘Not long after that I got wind that there was a story that I had intentionally swapped seats to get nearer to Coleen because that is where the cameras would be and it would maximise my publicity.
‘I had no idea where the cameras would be and I was not interested in that. I would have quite happily blurred into the background.
‘I got in touch with Coleen by WhatsApp. She denied that she knew anything about it and basically said that the press are horrible; this is what they do, ignore it, rise above it.’

Vardy’s claim comes after a trove of documents relating to the ‘Wagatha Christie’ trial – where Vardy is suing Coleen Rooney for libel over claims that Vardy leaked personal information about Rooney to the press.
Vardy says in the statement that the Wagatha Christie row has cost her a book deal – and an endorsement for placenta capsules.
Vardy, who is suing Coleen Rooney for libel, says that she lost lucrative work as a result of the claim that she was leaking personal stories about Rooney to the press.
In a witness statement, Vardy said the impact of the claims, which she denies, lost her a ‘potential book deal that was turned down’.
She also said that she has a midwife company ready to make placenta pills for her after the birth of her fifth child Olivia but they pulled out because of the allegations made by Rooney.
It comes as the end of the trial meant a trove of documents related to the case – nicknamed the ‘Wagatha Files’ – have been released to the public.

In the witness statement, the embattled claimant wrote: ‘It has also impacted on my work.
‘We had a potential book deal that was turned down in the wake of the Post. No one wanted to be involved with anything that was potentially going to end up in a court case, and because, although they didn’t necessarily say it to me, of the damage to my reputation.
‘I had a midwife company lined up to make placenta capsules and they pulled out weeks before the birth.
‘I still get extremely stressed by live television or going into any environment where there is press because of the fear that someone will bring it up.’
