The likelihood of Aaron Rodgers playing for the Packers in 2021 does not seem to be decreasing.
According to the NFL Network, Rodgers has "indicated" to others that he is planning on playing for the Packers this season. That tweet Monday comes after Rodgers and star wide receiver Davante Adams posted the same cryptic social media message on Friday.
#Packers QB Aaron Rodgers has indicated to people close to him that he does plan to play for GB this season, sources say. That is the expectation. Many factors at play, but with GM Brian Gutekunst saying he is “hopeful” for a positive outcome, there is a glimmer of optimism.

Whether or not the reigning NFL MVP reports for the start of training camp on Wednesday is a different proposition altogether. It wouldn't be surprising to see Rodgers absent this week and the tweet from Ian Rapoport makes no mention of Rodgers' training camp status. Could the star QB wait a little bit before reporting to draw out the saga even further?
If Rodgers is going to ultimately show up, the Packers may not mind some hesitation. That would mean more first-team reps for second-year QB Jordan Love. The Packers took love in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft.
Rodgers has three years left on his deal with the Packers, though Green Bay could get out of the deal after the 2021 season for just $17 million in dead money on the salary cap compared to over $38 million if Rodgers wasn't a part of the team in 2021. That number declines all the way to just over $2 million ahead of the 2023 season when Rodgers is set to turn 40.
Love seems to be the long-term plan for the Packers at QB. But Rodgers has always seemed to be the short-term plan too. And that doesn't appear to be changing anytime soon.
