Rescue operation is launched as a CAR is seen drifting down the River Trent in Nottinghamshire

- It is unclear if anybody was in the car at the time it plunged into the River Trent
A rescue operation has been launched after a car was seen drifting towards the River Trent in Nottinghamshire.
Police, fire and ambulance crews raced to the scene in Hoveringham, following reports of a vehicle drifting down the River Trent.
The car is believed to have plunged into the river at around 4.15pm.
As of 7.30pm, the search operation was still ongoing.
It is not yet known if there is anybody inside or if there are any casualties.

Nottinghamshire Police officers, a police aeroplane, the air ambulance and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service are currently working to retrieve the vehicle.
Inspector Frank Guddemi, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: ‘Nottinghamshire Police was called at around 4.15pm to the report and emergency services quickly attended.
‘This is a live incident and I’d encourage the public to avoid the area while emergency services respond.’
