Rich woman accused of shooting police officer ‘claims she was massaging him’

A wealthy woman accused of shooting dead a police officer reportedly claims she was giving him a massage.

Canadian socialite Jasmine Hartin, 32, was arrested after Superintendent Henry Jemmott, 42, died in Belize, Central America.

She was taken into custody last Friday and has now been pictured in a tiny cell in the town of San Pedro.

The dad-of-five was shot behind the ear with his own revolver, it is claimed.

His body was found in the sea off a pier in San Pedro, on the island of Ambergris Caye.

He had an apparent gunshot wound behind his ear, while a woman was found on the pier, authorities claimed.

Police said Hartin and the officer were known to be friends, and are believed to have been drinking.

According to the Times, Hartin told police she was giving him a shoulder massage at the time as he was in pain.

He had put his gun down on the pier and asked her to pass the weapon to him, she added.

But the Glock pistol had no safety mechanism and managed to fire, and he was accidentally shot in the back of the head, the newspaper reported.

Police Commissioner Chester Williams said the pair were alone and there is no suggestion of third-party involvement, the Mirror reported.

He added: "We have to look at the investigation with an open mind, but so far we have not had any indication to suggest that there was any third actor.

"In the absence of an explanation, she would have to be treated as the killer."

Hartin is said to have been found by a security guard covered in blood.

Following the shooting, a photo from 2012 emerged which shows her clutching a gun at a shooting range in Las Vegas, US.

Hartin has been charged with manslaughter by negligence.

Her lawyer Godfrey Smith said on Monday (June 1) that bail was denied.

Hartin and her husband have two children together and recently opened a luxury resort close to where the shooting occurred.
