Robert Redford is selling his 30-acre Utah horse ranch named after his 1998 movie ‘The Horse Whisperer’ for $4.9 million, so he can concentrate on expanding his other nearby equine facility.
The 84-year-old actor’s ranch is located in Wasatch County, about 16 miles north of Sundance, the ski and resort community he founded in 1969.
The ranch sits on the northern edge of Deer Creek Reservoir and the Provo River and offers views of the 12,000-foot Mount Timpanogos.
Redford bought the property in 1996 as a place for his horses to exercise during the winter, Compass real estate agent Steve Mavromihalis told the Wall Street Journal.
Mavromihalis is listing the property with Jaisa Bishop of Windermere Utah.

‘The Horse Whisper Ranch is not just a return to a simpler time or a sanctuary for your favorite equines, it is the continuation of a legacy and a stewardship enhanced by one of the most acclaimed film artists and noted environmentalists of our time,’ the listing says.
The property features multiple structures including a shed, utility building and a stable.
The 30-acre lot, built in 1914, also includes a modest 1,491 square-foot single-family home.
The one story home includes two bedrooms and two bathrooms.
The property also comes with a nearly 2,000-square-foot wood shop, a 3,200-square-foot garden hobby house, a boat garage, hay barn, covered four-stall breezeway run, covered horse stalls, along with a training ring and pastures, WSJ reported.
Redford says he is selling the ranch to focus on maintaining his other properties, including a nearby ranch in Provo County.
It is not known how much he initially purchased the property for.

‘For the past 25 years my family and I have loved and embraced this ranch as the base for our equestrian program, running clinics, and home for our many beloved horses,’ Redford told WSJ in an emailed statement.
‘Looking ahead, we want to focus on expanding the facilities at our Sundance ranch in nearby Provo Canyon.’ he added.
Redford has homes in California and Santa Fe, NM, real estate agent Mavromihalis told WSJ.
He also still owns around 1,800 acres in Utah, including his family’s ranch in Sundance.
Redford is parting ways with the ranch named after the 1998 movie he directed and starred in.
The film was based on the 1995 novel written by Nicholas Evans of the same name.
Redford played Tom Booker, a talented horse trainer hired to help an injured teenager played by a young Scarlett Johansson bring her horse back to health following a tragic accident.
The film was well received by critics and grossed $186 million worldwide.
Redford said horses have been important to him since he was a child, WSJ reported.
The A-list actor began amassing property in Utah starting in the 1960s, when he purchased two acres in Provo Canyon and built an A-frame cabin for his family.
He continued purchasing property in the state into 1969 when he bought the first parcels of land that became Sundance Mountain Resort, WSJ reported.
In addition to founding the Sundance Film Festival, the actor founded the Sundance Institute, an arts nonprofit and a mail-order catalog.
In 2004, he sold the Sundance Catalog to ACI Capital and Webster Capital, in a deal valued WSJ reports was valued between $20 million and $40 million and last year he sold the 2,600-acre Sundance Mountain Resort to Broadreach Capital Partners and Cedar Capital Partners for an undisclosed sum.
Redford’s acting career began in the 1950s working as a relative unknown on the stage and television.
He made his film debut in 1960 in a minor role in the movie Tall Story, starring Jane Fonda.
He became a huge star after starring in 1969’s Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid alongside Paul Newman and has since won two Academy Awards and has gone on to direct multiple films.
