A school bus driver was dragged off the bus by three angry mothers who then repeatedly kicked her while she lay on the ground after they claimed she ignored a bullying incident.
New Orleans school bus driver Andrea Anderson told WVUE-TV that the parents barged onto her bus, and started screaming at her before they dragged her off.
They then started beating and kicking her in front of students because they were angry about an alleged bullying incident that took place on the bus.
Anderson told the new outlet that she had been unaware of any incident involving bullying on her bus before the attack.
Cellphone footage of the brawl recorded by a student shows one of the mother standing over Anderson, who is in her seat driving the bus. The woman appears to be yelling and pointing at the school bus driver. A few seconds later, it appears Anderson tries to push the woman off of her.
The three mothers in the video are seen dragging Anderson off of the bus and repeatedly punching her while she was on the ground next to the school bus. The children on the bus are heard screaming in fear in the background
Franklin Ave and North Dorgenois Ave, the intersection in New Orleans where three mothers waited and attacked Andrea Anderson while she was dropping off students
The woman then seems to grab Anderson, yank her down the steps of the bus before throwing her on the ground, where two other mothers were already wildly throwing punches at her. The video shows the three women repeatedly beating and kicking Anderson multiple times as she attempts to get back up.
They also ripped off her bright yellow driver’s vest and threw it on the ground.
Anderson said she saw the three women waiting for her when she pulled over to make her scheduled stop at the corner of Franklin Avenue and North Dorgenois.
‘It was horrible. They approached the bus, they pushed past other students you know, knocking them down,’ Anderson told WVUE. ‘It happened right here. In the middle of the street. My stop sign was out, I had cars waiting—you know, people were outside, I had students outside. It was horrible.’
Anderson said she was assaulted in front of a bus full of students, many of whom were screaming and ‘afraid’ as the parents continued beating her in broad daylight.
‘They were screaming. They were scared,’ Anderson said of the students on the bus.
Anderson also said the three mothers didn’t think through their plan very well as she intends to do everything she can to make sure they end up in jail.
‘You know, but you decide with your childish mind to come to a bus stop and fight a school bus driver like I’m not going to press charges, because hey, I want all three of them in jail,’ she told WVUE.
Anderson also explained that there was very little she could do to protect herself because any attempt to drive away would have potentially injured the children.
Andrea Anderson said she isn’t letting the three mothers get away with assaulting her and is going forward with pressing charges
She added that she was ‘traumatized’ from the incident and was still recovering from her injuries. However, she clarified that she still wants to return to work because she loves her job.
‘I love my job. I do want to go back simply because it’s a good timeframe for my children,’ Anderson concluded.
The New Orleans Police Department said the investigation regarding the incident was ongoing. The school district, of which the bus belongs to, remains unknown.
The names of the parents have not been released, nor has it been made clear if all three have children on Anderson’s route and where those children were at the time.
