Scotland’s former first minister Nicola Sturgeon arrested in funding probe

Police Scotland said on Sunday a 52-year-old woman – believed to be former first minister Nicola Sturgeon –has been arrested as a suspect in connection with an investigation into the Scottish National Party’s funding.

The woman was in custody and was being questioned, Police Scotland said in a statement on Twitter.

UK police do not name suspects until they are charged. British media, including the BBC and Sky News correspondents for Scotland, reported the arrested woman was the former first minister.

Several senior SNP figures have previously been arrested and questioned as part of the investigation. None has been charged.
