Scots schoolboy dies after being pulled from River Clyde

A SCOTS schoolboy has died after he was pulled from the River Clyde yesterday.

The youngster, 13, was rushed to hospital after getting into difficulty in the water near Garrion Bridge in Larkhall, Lanarkshire.

Cops and medics raced to the scene at around 3.15pm after the alarm was raised.

The teenage boy was taken to Glasgow's Royal Hospital for Children, but police confirmed that he later died.

A cops spokesperson said: "A 13-year-old has died after getting into difficulty in the RC near Garrion Bridge in Larkhall."

"Emergency services were contacted around 3.15pm. There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death."

One shocked resident, who did not want to be named, told how “dozens” of emergency vehicles had swooped on the scene.

They said: “I heard dozens of sirens. I looked out my window and saw police, fire engines and ambulances — multiple vehicles of each.

"A police helicopter was hovering above, near Garrion Bridge. I assumed it was a road traffic accident.”

Another local claimed young people sometimes “play” in the water there, adding: “I saw them on the island in the middle of the river last summer and in the past have heard them under the old bridge at night.

“The water is pretty low at the moment because of the weather, but the current is really strong.”
