Search for Malaysian plane MH370 that disappeared in 2014 with 239 on board is over

THE search for Malaysian plane MH370 that disappeared in 2014 with 239 on board is over.

Officials in Australia said today that the search had officially been suspended after crews finished their fruitless sweep of the 46,000-square mile search zone west of the country.

Crews completed their deep-sea search of a desolate stretch of the Indian Ocean without finding any bodies.

The Joint Agency Coordination Center said: "Despite every effort using the best science available, cutting-edge technology, as well as modelling and advice from highly skilled professionals who are the best in their field, unfortunately, the search has not been able to locate the aircraft.

"Accordingly, the underwater search for MH370 has been suspended."

Flight MH370 disappeared in March 2014 en route to Beijing from the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur.

The families of passengers onboard the flight said are "dismayed" by the suspension of the search and have appealed to authorities to reconsider.

The doomed Malaysia Airlines flight had 239 passengers and crew on board, most of them Chinese.

What happened to the plane has become one of the world’s greatest aviation mysteries.

Not a single body has been found throughout the long search – just 33 pieces of wreckage.

Parts of wings and a tail were located on the shores of Mauritius, the French Indian Ocean island of Reunion, Mozambique, Tanzania and South Africa.
