Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall, 62, forced to replace gravestone she inscribed with 'Liverpool Cleopatra' for herself after losing battle with Brit relatives

SEX and the City star Kim Cattrall has been forced to replace a gravestone for herself after losing a bitter battle with her British relatives.

The actress, 62, had referred to herself as ‘the Liverpool Cleopatra’ on the Cattrall memorial and was accused of showing a “total lack of respect” by her family.

Kim’s cousin Michelle Cox, 51, said she felt like she “had been burgled” when she saw the changes the Canadian star had made in 2016.

The actress, known for playing saucy Samantha Cox in the Sex in the City, was born in Liverpool but moved to Canada with her parents when she was three months old.

She later returned to the city to attend secondary school there from the age of 11 to 16.

BITTER FAMILY FEUD

Kim has been locked in a feud with her relatives over the family plot where her aunt Edna, Miss Cox’s mum, is buried and her dad Dennis’ ashes are scattered.

Older members of the Catrall family are also laid to rest in the same grave in Holy Trinity, Wavertree.

Kim’s inscription is believed to be a reference to the actress's 2010 return to the stage in Liverpool in a production of William Shakespeare's Antony And Cleopatra.

It was also my father’s wish I be buried there as well. He was especially proud of me coming home to Liverpool in 2010 to play ‘Cleopatra’ at the Playhouse.

Speaking back in 2016, Kim told the Liverpool Echo: “My dad died in 2012 and he was buried later that same year with a ceremony conducted by the Vicar and laid to rest in that grave.

"It was also my father’s wish I be buried there as well. He was especially proud of me coming home to Liverpool in 2010 to play ‘Cleopatra’ at the Playhouse."He called me ‘The Liverpool Cleopatra’. It was such an important moment for my Dad and for me coming home to do that play. We wanted a new headstone including his name and mine, when the time comes."

CHANGE IT BACK

The Catrall dispute ended up in ecclesiastical court – but Church of England top brass eventually ruled against Kim, the Daily Mail reports.

Sir Mark Hedley, chancellor of the consistory court of the diocese of Liverpool, said that her name should be removed from the headstone and that she pay for it.

Kim has never met her cousin after the family fell out over Edna marrying a man from Barbados.

In 2016 Miss Cox told Liverpool Confidential: ‘It doesn’t seem right that someone who has spent the majority of her life in Canada and the US can come to Liverpool and reserve a grave simply by putting their name on it.’

But Kim hit back, saying: ‘The Cox family are not my family.’

Cox family source told the Mail Kim’s celebrity had nothing to do with their stance on the case – it was about “ensuring respect for the deceased.”
They added that Kim’s inscription was “in very poor taste”.
