Shock video shows teacher 'pulling 12-year-old girl's hair to drag her back into classroom'

A TEACHER has been arrested after a video went viral showing the adult pulling a student by the hair.

Jennifer Wells-Jackson is facing a felony charge of risk of injury to a child and a misdemeanor count of second-degree breach of peace.

The incident occurred at the King/Robinson Inter-district Magnet School in New Haven, Connecticut on February 1.

Destinique James told cops that her teacher had pulled her hair during the final bell as she was leaving the classroom.

A video taken during the incident shows Wells-Jackson holding onto the 12-year-old’s braided hair from behind. Meanwhile, another student is pulling a classmate away from the girl.

It’s unclear if the teacher was trying to break up a fight as the police would not say. After several other students were yelling, Wells-Jackson finally let go of James’ hair.

The preteen didn’t suffer any injuries and declined medical attention, according to police.

The girl’s mother, Destinie James, said she was “disgusted” by what Wells-Jackson did. She said her daughter told her that the school’s intercom had dismissed the students when the teacher “dragged her” back into the room.

“There’s certain things you say and there’s certain things you don’t say, there’s certain things you do and certain things you’re not supposed to do especially when dealing with people’s children,” Destinie said to WTNH.

“At the end of the day, there’s no justification for putting your hands on someone’s child.”

The teacher was released on $20,000 bond and is scheduled to make her first court appearance on Monday.

She has been described as a well-respected teacher and community activist. She is an instructional literary coach and a longtime member of the Federation of Teachers in New Haven.

This was the fourth arrest of a teacher employed by the school district since last November.

The district said it was fully cooperating with authorities and takes the safety of their students seriously.
