‘Significant mistake’ in Harry’s book over Queen Mother ‘raises accuracy doubts’

Prince Harry has claimed he learned of the Queen Mother's death on a warm school day at Eton when reports from that time suggest he was skiing on icy slopes in Switzerland.

It is a "significant mistake", made in Harry's new book Spare, that one Royal Family reporter claims "raises major questions about accuracy" concerning the rest of his revelation-packed memoir.

Harry, then 17, was reported as being on holiday in Klosters with his father Charles and brother William when his great-grandmother passed away at the age of 101 in March 2002.

The trio returned to the UK the following day.

Highlighting the apparent contradiction, GB News royal reporter Cameron Walker argued: "It raises questions and concerns – are there any other inconsistencies in this book?"

A former royal correspondent, who covered the skiing trip at the time, confirmed to the outlet that British journalists had recently arrived back in the UK from a pre-agreed photo call in Switzerland when the Queen Mother died.

After Buckingham Palace publicly announced her death, then-Prince Charles' spokeswoman issued a statement which said he was still with both his sons in Klosters.

This does not suggest the Duke of Sussex intentionally lied in his memoir, and a former insider has pointed out this could be a simple "honest mistake".

But royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told GB News that it was a "serious error in a hugely controversial book" which leaves one to wonder "how many other factual errors are to be found within its pages".

One such inaccuracy has already been spotted, regarding a present the Duke claimed his mother, Princess Diana, bought for him before her death – although Prince Harry did concede his memory may have been fuzzy regarding this event.

Harry wrote that he was given a present by his aunt, Diana's sister Lady Sarah McCorquodale, on his 13th birthday.

The Prince described how he was allowed to choose two flavours of sorbet, and so picked blackcurrant and mango because they were "Mummy's favourites".

He said he had been thinking of her when "out of nowhere", his aunt Sarah appeared, and gave him an Xbox as a present.

However, the Xbox would not be released by Microsoft until four years later, in 2001.

The Daily Star has approached the Duke of Sussex for comment.
