The sole survivor of the shooting spree by a former NFL player that left five dead in a small South Carolina town has been identified as a married father of three — as his family urged people to pray for him to pull through.

Air conditioning technician Robert Shook, of Cherryville, was shot multiple times and has undergone several surgeries after the mass shooting in Rock Hill on Wednesday afternoon, WBTV-News reported.

“He put himself through school to become a certified heating/AC guy to provide for his family,” Shook’s family told the outlet Thursday. “Please, please, pray.”

Shook and his wife, Holly, have three children, age 7, 13, and 18, WBTV reported.

Shook was outside the Marshall Road home of Dr. Robert Lesslie when authorities say former football player Phillip Adams shot him and co-worker James Lewis, 38, before breaking into the home and killing the doctor and his family — including his two grandchildren.

Lewis died, but Shook managed to call his company, Gaston Sheet Metal, in nearby Gastonia in a plea for help, according to 911 recordings released by police.

“I’ve been shot, I’ve been shot, call 911,” Shook told his boss. “Please call 911.”

The frantic call was relayed by a company representative who called 911.

“One is non-responsive the other one is talking slurred and I think he’s been shot in the face or the head or something ’cause he can’t talk,’” the caller told the dispatcher.

Photos obtained from the family by WBTV and posted on Twitter show Shook with his young son in one image and with his daughter in another post.

York County Sheriff Kevin Tolson said at a briefing Thursday that Adams died from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound hours after the shooting.

Police have not determined a motive for the shootings.

In a statement posted on Facebook Thursday, Gaston Sheet Metal described Shook and Lewis as “family focused, upbeat, and wonderful team members who cared about all the people they encountered.”
