Solid gold jeweled Tabernacle worth $2 MILLION stolen from NYC church

Is nothing sacred anymore? Solid gold jeweled Tabernacle worth $2 MILLION is stolen from NYC Catholic church by warped vandals who also decapitated marble statue of angel

  • An unknown number of thieves stole a golden tabernacle from a Brooklyn church between Thursday night and Saturday, the NYPD reported
  • They cut a giant rectangular hole in the tabernacle’s casing before pulling out the $2million jeweled structured
  • It is unclear how they managed to lift the life-size items or how they transported it from the church
  • The brazen thieves also decapitated an angel statute in the church and it is unclear where the head is now
  • The incident is just one of numerous crimes happening in the Big Apple as of late, with overall crime up 39 percent

Thieves stole a jewel-encrusted solid gold tabernacle worth $2 million from a Brooklyn church – and also beheaded one of its marble angel statues.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) said an unknown number of thieves stole a tabernacle between Thursday night and Saturday from St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church on 6 Avenue in Brooklyn, New York.

The brazen thieves reported cut a giant hold into the tabernacle with unknown equipment and extracted an 18-karat gold tabernacle with jewels from its casing.

The tabernacle – a large structure that holds the Eucharist in the form of a blessed host – sat under a domed archway inside the church. The giant structure was hidden by what appears to be a revolving gold door, which now has a large rectangular cutout where the thieves drilled into to access it.

The hole was not cut all the way to the bottom and it is unclear how the thieves managed to lift the structure out of it’s cubbyhole and out of the church.

The tabernacle – which is typically the height of a person – resembled a glamorous building, with gold hardware and figures at the top. The ‘roof’ of the tabernacle features a cross at the top and several decorations.

The NYPD also reported an angel statue was decapitated during the burglary and it is unclear where the head is now.

The brazen display is just another incident of crime New Yorkers are facing on a daily basis as the Big Apple continues to rot since the start of the pandemic.

Burglary is up 32 percent in the City That Never Sleep with almost 6,000 incidents happening since January 1.

Almost all crime is up in New York City with robbery, assaults, and transit crimes up significantly. Robbery is up 40 percent, assaults are up 19 percent, and transit crimes spiked 57 percent this year.

Overall crime is also up 39 percent, which is slowly starting to go down in recent weeks.

Mayor Eric Adams has vowed to lower crime rates since taking office in January, but crime has only continued to surge since, despite telling New Yorkers he would remove the homeless and mentally ill from the subway system and deploy more officers.

The mayor is now being slammed for potentially considering a presidential run – if Joe Biden doesn’t run for reelection. Critics aren’t happy that the Democrat is not focusing on fixing local matters before raising his ambitions towards the White House.
