You may know Tabitha Brown as “America’s Mom,” who rose to fame on TikTok during the COVID-19 pandemic by sharing vegan recipes and words of wisdom in her iconic soothing voice.
Brown is now stepping into a new space and partnering with Target to fulfill her longtime dream of creating her own clothing line. Before pursuing acting, Brown went to school for fashion design.
“I told my daddy when I quit school, you know one day when I’m famous I’m going to have a fashion line. I had no idea it would happen this way, but it’s always something I’ve wanted to do,” Brown told AOL at the launch event for her collection.
For Brown, the designs were all about “joy and bringing a little bit of me and sunshine to people’s life.”
“It was really for people to be encouraged to feel good about how you’re dressed, feel free and be beautiful at the same time,” she said.
The partnership, which launched just a week before Juneteenth, is part of Target’s push to support Black-owned businesses and partner with Black creators and designers, according to a press release from the company.
Brown “is known for being a beacon of positivity, making her the perfect partner to help Target continue providing inspirational, inclusive and affordable style for all,” Jill Sando, executive vice president and chief merchandising officer, Target said in the press release.
Her design debut features more than 75 apparel, swim and accessories items in women’s sizes XXS to 4X, with most items priced under $30. Affordability and size-inclusivity was particularly important for Brown when creating the line since she wanted to create designs “for everybody.”
“All the women in my family are plus-sized women. I saw the struggles that they went through growing up with clothes not being what they wanted, or not having options,” she told AOL. “Or also being up-priced,” she said. “No matter how small or big or whatever we look like, we are perfect. So I wanted our look to be perfect as well, so it had to include everybody.”
The first of four installments of her ongoing collaboration, Tabitha Brown for Target, is out now for a limited time.
