Takeaway sparks outrage by charging £2 for CHEESE on chips – but some diners agree with cost | The Sun

FURIOUS diners have blasted their local chippy for charging £2 for CHEESE on chips – but not everyone agrees with their criticism.

One customer lashed out at Mariners Fish and Chips in Penryn, Cornwall, after he was slapped with the cheeky extra charge.

The diner – who has not been named – was fuming when his order of cheesy chips with curry sauce came to a total of £6.40.

The diner wrote on Reddit: "The price to add cheese at my local chippy!

"A regular cheesy chips with curry sauce cost me £6.40."

In his post, the man also shared a photo of the chippy's chalkboard, displaying the price list of the food on offer.

Chips cost £2.90 for a standard portion and £4.90 for a large – while adding "proper grated mature cheddar" costs two pounds extra.

The upset diner added: "Gravy is £1.50 for small, £2 for large. Bear in mind an entire jar of Bisto Best is £2.

"This is one of the most popular chippies around. It's always busy and its competition has just closed down.

"Credit where its due, their food is great. But still overpriced."

Other Reddit users were quick to their two cents in.

One comment said, "Your local chippy is a f****** disgrace", while another asked: "Is that a number 9 I see next to an item? In a f****** chippy?!"

Another Reddit user added: "At that price it would have to be something fancy, or the biggest mountain of cheese ever seen on a cheesy chips."

But some Reddit users found the funny side and sarcastically quipped: "This is why I always have a pocket full of shredded cheese wherever I go, OP."

Yet some suggested the high fee for extra cheese might be necessary as takeaway shops are now forking out more for their ingredients.
