Ted Cruz mocks Kamala Harris for whining she hasn’t been to EUROPE when asked if she’ll visit Mexico border

TED Cruz mocked Vice President Kamala Harris for saying she hasn't "been to Europe" when asked about visiting the Mexican border.

The Texas senator said that Harris displayed no willingness to "fix the problem" at the border during her trip to meet with leaders of Guatemala and Mexico.

"For four years, the media went on and on about kids in cages, kids in cages," Cruz said during an appearance on Fox News on Tuesday.

"What they never told you is Barack Obama built the cages, and now Joe Biden and Kamala Harris built more cages. They're bigger and they're more full.

"In that entire interview, what you don't hear is any willingness to fix the problem," Cruz said, referring to an interview Harris gave to NBC's Lester Holt from Guatemala, where she pushed back on criticism that she hasn't visited the border.

Cruz went onto allege that Biden and Harris could fix the issues at the border tomorrow, "by ending catch and release and be re-instating the remain in Mexico policy."

"Instead she laughs it off and says, 'Well, I haven't been to Europe.' Well, OK, you haven't been to Europe. You haven't been to Australia. But we don't have an Australian border crisis. We don't have a border crisis in Europe."

In the NBC interview, Harris said that she is not, "discounting the importance of the border," but said she is also trying to prioritize addressing why people go to the border.

Despite much criticism about how the Biden administration is handling the border crisis, Harris said that she feels her first international trip as vice president was a success.

"Do I declare this trip a success? Yes, I do," she said. "It is a success in terms of a pathway that is about progress."

Harris met with Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei and Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador during her trip.

The VP has been adamant about addressing the "root causes" of migration to address the crisis but did also say that she will eventually visit the border.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said on Tuesday that she expects Harris will visit the border "at some point."

"What her focus has been, what the assignment is specifically, is to work with leaders in the Northern Triangle," Psaki said, referring to the job Biden gave Harris of addressing the border situation.

"She's on a trip doing exactly that, exactly what the president asked her to do.

"Her focus of this trip is on meeting with leaders, having a discussion about how to address corruption, how to address root causes, how to work together to address humanitarian challenges in these countries.

"That's exactly what she's doing on the ground and I'm sure she'll report back to the president when she returns."
