Terrifying moment man crashes car into cop station and sets road on FIRE before hero tackles him to the ground

THIS is the terrifying moment a man crashed a car into a police station before setting a busy road on fire.

Adam Pawlowski, 46, ploughed into Edmonton Police Station, North London, at high speed on November 11 last year.

Shocking footage shows Pawlowski speeding along the busy road before swerving sharply and slamming into the station.

Pawlowski then revved up the engines, filling the front office with smoke.

He is then seen calmly leaving the car before dousing the street in flammable liquid and torching it.

As Pawlowski walks away from the flames a brave member of the public tackles him to the ground before cops arrived.

The hero – who was never traced by police -races across the road and throws his arms around Pawlowski before bundling him to the floor.

Pawlowski was then arrested and officers extinguished the fire.

Nobody was injured in the shocking attack and no serious damage was done to the building.

Pawlowski was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order and banned from driving for 12 months with requirements with requirement to take an extended vehicle test.

The Polish national told police he had been planning the incident for around two-and-a-half years.

He had chosen the date and time because the numbers '1' and '7' were personally significant to him.

'CHAOTIC'

Pawlowski had a grudge against police after previous interactions, including one where his car was stolen and never found.

He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, criminal damage and attempted arson reckless to life being endangered.

A charge of attempted arson with intent to endanger life was left to lie on file.

The judge spoke of the "shock, disbelief and fear which unfolded" during the attack and praised officers for their speed and professionalism.

Chief Superintendent Simon Crick, head of policing for Haringey and Enfield, said: "When shown parts of the footage during police interview Pawlowski laughed, but the actions he took that day could have had devastating consequences.

“The officers who responded were confronted with a chaotic and frightening scenario but acted with the utmost courage and bravery to swiftly detain Pawlowski.

“Following the incident support was provided to the staff who man our front counter, who were going about their work when this distressing ordeal unfolded. Very luckily, no one was injured.

“The member of the public who helped apprehend Pawlowski left the scene and was never traced, despite extensive efforts. I’d like to extend our thanks to them for their bravery in assisting my officers.”
