Two teenagers and a third person have been wounded by a gunman in what appears to be a “targeted” attack outside an amusement park in the United States.
The shooting led to panic and confusion inside the park on Sunday evening. Footage on social media showed people taking shelter while ambulances and police cars could be seen in the background.
The park in Illinois closed early after the shooting.

But in what is just one of the latest incidents in the country’s never-ending cycle of gun violence, cops were quick to tell visitors to the Six Flags Great America park that the attack did not appear to be random, and there was no “active shooter” on the loose in the area.
The attack happened on Sunday evening just outside the entrance to the park in Gurnee, Illinois, reports Fox News.
Police said a white Sedan entered the car park at about 7.50pm and headed towards the entrance of the theme park. “Several” suspects got out and began shooting at another person in the car park.
A 17-year-old boy from Aurora, Illinois, who was shot in his upper thigh, and a 19-year-old woman from Appleton, Wisconsin, who was hit in her lower leg, were taken to hospital.
The cops said that a third victim who was shot declined treatment.
A spokesperson for the amusement park said the car immediately drove off.
In a statement, police told Fox: “The shooting this evening was not a random act, and appeared to be a targeted incident that occurred outside the park.
“This was not an active shooter incident inside the park.”

Witness Ryan Crawford told WFLD that she was queuing for the Raging Bull ride when panic broke out.
"An employee [said] there's an active shooter, everyone got down, everyone started panting, started running towards the exits,” she said. “There were people jumping over the fence. People almost got trampled. It was just absolutely crazy."
Six Flags Great America spokesperson Rachel Kendziora said: “We are incredibly grateful to our team members who reacted in a professional manner to take care of our guests, and for the Gurnee Police Department for their ongoing presence and commitment to Six Flags Great America.”
No arrests in connection with the crime have been made yet.
